The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team opens its final road trip of the season with a trip to Ohio Valley Conference foe Lindenwood on Thursday, Feb. 22. Tipoff from Hyland Arena is schedule for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (11-14, 8-6 OVC) enter the matchup looking to make a final push heading into the OVC Basketball Championship in two weeks with four games to play. UT Martin currently sits in third place in the league standings and just one game out of second place and the double-bye through the first round of the tournament field.
UT Martin picked up a big home win last time out, knocking off Morehead State by a final score of 70-54. The Skyhawks shot 52 percent from the field and placed four players in double figures. Sophomores Anaya Brown (18 points, nine rebounds) and Lexi Rubel (17 points, five assists) posted big performances in the win while the freshman pair of Norah Clark (15 points, six rebounds) and Kenley McCarn (10 points, two assists) also reached double figures.
The Skyhawks are trying to even up the season series with the Lions after falling in a slugfest back on Jan. 27 in Martin. Both teams went shot-for-shot in the third quarter before Lindenwood finished the game on an 11-0 run to pull out a 73-68 victory.
The two teams have only met on the court twice in series history. In 2022-23, UT Martin was awarded a win via forfeit in the league standings last season before Lindenwood won the head-to-head matchup in St. Charles for its first win in its young OVC history.
Lindenwood (6-18, 4-10 OVC) is looking to snap a three-game losing streak after falling to Tennessee Tech, SIUE and Eastern Illinois over the past two weeks. The Lions currently sit one game out of eighth place and the final spot in the OVC Basketball Championship with just two weeks left in the regular season. The squad is led offensively by Ellie Brueggemann who averages 14.4 points per game and scored 27 points – making seven three-pointers – in the last matchup against the Skyhawks.
